I noted July 4th, 2013 as one of my important date. It was the date when finally Edcamp touching down here in Indonesia. Yeah! The first one in South East Asia. High five to Ine (@maureenmoz) and Juli (@JuliIndawati) as my partner in crime :)
Hundreds of Edcamp event have been held all over the world. I believe each organizer gets their own WOW! moment while organizing Edcamp. Now let me share mine.

Organizing an Edcamp is a fun, collaborative experience for educators across the nation and the globe
I quoted the sentence from Edcamp Website and I'm totally agree! As the new organizer, I had Kristen (@kristenswanson ) as my edcamp collaborator. Back to the days, we set meeting time (worked with time issue since I was in Indonesia and she was in US), made the video call, and discussed through emails. I also had Dan (@dancallahan ) to back me up with the wiki things. WOW! I enjoyed the preparation and had a great time working with educators from other part of the globe. We created good collaboration and it brought me to the next level of my professional life. Thank you Kristen and Dan!
At this point, as a homeroom teacher in primary school, the collaboration was inspiring me to bring the same thing to my classroom. I want to give my students the opportunity to feel the experience working with the students from the other part of the world, having their own wow experience. Now, I'm looking forward to have global class collaboration. EXCITED!

My second WOW! would be the new networking that I had before, during and after the event. FYI, I knew Ine and Juli from Twitter and we didn't work in the same institution. We were just a group of crazies who live in the same city, passionate in education and agreed to organize Edcamp. People started to contact us, asked the information about the event and started to share everything. I got connected with Mr. Kwarta (@KwartAdimphrana) during the preparation. He was the winner of Microsoft teacher award. WOW! I got connected with more awesome people that had awesome experiences.
I should admit that at first, we didn't expect much from the event. Why? We had to be realistic, it was the first event in Indonesia using participant-driven concept with "The Law of Two Feet". We didn't so sure what and how, but then we got great response of registration more than our expectation. Although only 55% checked in but from the numbers of registrant at least we knew that people were curious and tried to find out about the event. After the rocky road of preparation finally the event day. On the spot, participants planned the topics and led the sessions. Joined the sessions based on their needs and interests. Share ideas and learn from others experience. We did the active learning in Edcamp. And WOW! I couldn't stop the sessions for the closing ceremony (well, I need to ask Kristen to deal with this situation next time) :))
The day had passed, but not yet the end. People keep asking WHAT and WHAT NEXT from Edcamp. We still have few homework to do. Now, we're working for the website and preparing next Edcamp event with more volunteers. But the top priority that we have to do now is to encourage more educators in Indonesia to organize their own Edcamp. Let them having their own WOW! moment. Wish us luck!
PS.
Still have to wait until September to get the event pictures because the photographer is on vacation.
